American Comedian and Actor

Known for His Deadpan

Bob Newhart, who burst onto the comedy scene in 1960 with a stammering Everyman character, has died at the age of 95. Newhart's deadpan style and observational humor made him a star in both stand-up comedy and television.

Newhart was born in Chicago in 1929. He began his career as an accountant, but soon realized that his true passion was comedy. He started performing at local clubs in the late 1950s, and by 1960 he had his own national television show, "The Bob Newhart Show."

Newhart's show was a critical and commercial success, running for 5 seasons. It featured Newhart as a psychologist who often found himself in absurd situations. After his show ended, Newhart continued to perform stand-up comedy and guest starred on numerous television shows.

In 1982, Newhart returned to television with a new sitcom, "Newhart." This show ran for 8 seasons and featured Newhart as a Vermont innkeeper. Newhart's deadpan delivery and impeccable timing made him one of the most beloved comedians of all time.
